Milestone Reached: My First Sale on AbeBooks!
I am thrilled to share some exciting news regarding my online bookstore project. I recently officially recorded my first sale on Yookstore, my storefront on AbeBooks!
For those who might not know, AbeBooks is a premier global marketplace for rare, used, and out-of-print books, and it is a subsidiary of Amazon.com. While I've been exploring various platforms, I was curious to see if my specific collection would resonate with the audience there.
The First Book Sold
The very first book I sold was:
Novell NetWare Commands & Installation Made Easy
ISBN: 0078816149
This wasn’t just any book from my shelf. It carries a bit of personal history. Back in the day, I used this book while working on computer network services, specifically installing and maintaining Novell NetWare systems. It’s one of those technical guides that supported real, hands-on work in the field—something that makes this sale feel a bit nostalgic.
Thoughts on AbeBooks
After this first experience, here are a few early impressions:
- No built-in shipping label service (as far as I can tell)
Unlike some platforms, AbeBooks doesn’t seem to provide an integrated shipping label system, so fulfillment requires a bit more manual handling. - Fees and commissions seem reasonable
Compared to platforms like Amazon or eBay, the cost structure looks fairly balanced and manageable, especially for independent sellers. - A focused marketplace for books
AbeBooks feels like a place where books—especially used, rare, or specialized ones—get more targeted attention.
Looking Ahead
This first sale may be small, but it’s an encouraging start. It gives me confidence to continue listing more books and growing my inventory on AbeBooks.
If you’re thinking about selling books online—especially unique or technical titles—it might be worth giving AbeBooks a try.
And for me, this is just the beginning.
Lessons Learned So Far
Setting up on a new platform always comes with a learning curve. Here are a few of my initial impressions:
The "Will it Sell?" Factor: I genuinely wondered if there was still a market for specialized technical books on AbeBooks. This sale proves that there is a buyer for everything, especially for collectors or those looking for specific legacy tech documentation.
Shipping Logistics: One thing to note for fellow sellers is that, unlike some other major platforms, AbeBooks doesn't seem to provide a built-in shipping label service. It requires a bit more manual handling on the logistics side, but it’s manageable once you have a system in place.
Fees and Commissions: After doing the math, the commission and fee structure on AbeBooks is quite reasonable. When compared to the rising costs on Amazon and eBay, it feels like a very fair environment for independent booksellers.
I’m looking forward to listing more of my collection and seeing where these books head next. If you're a book lover or looking for something unique, feel free to browse the Yookstore.
